Filho de Tim Bucley (um dos grandes trovadores dos anos 60 a par de Leonard Cohen e de Bob Dylan) também ele vítima de fim trágico (overdose de heroína), Jeff sempre viveu com o espírito do seu pai a pairar, tinham uma aparência física incrível, e muitos viam nele a descendência natural. Apesar disso conseguiu encontrar o seu próprio caminho musical, que foi sempre o que desejou. Editou apenas um disco em vida: Grace. E que disco! O tema que dá titulo ao disco é de uma força espantosa, com a voz de Jeff a atingir notas graves e agudas com uma facilidade desarmante. A versão de Hallelujah (Cohen) e Lilac Wine (James Shelton celebrizada por Nina Simone), não ficam a dever nada aos originais. Conheci o disco logo quando saíu. Já era fã do seu pai (em virtude das versões dos This Mortal Coil, pricipalmente), e fiquei estarrecido e apaixonado por aquela voz e aqueles temas tão próximos de mim. Vida e morte; o amor e a desilusão. Grace é apontado como um dos grandes discos de sempre em todas as listas de melhores da história. Obrigatório. "On May 29, 1997, as the band's plane touched down on the runway to join him in his Memphis studio, Buckley went swimming in Wolf River Harbor, a tributary of the Mississippi River, while wearing steel-toed boots, all of his clothing, and singing along to a radio playing Led Zeppelin's "Whole Lotta Love". A roadie of Buckley's band, Keith Foti, remained ashore. After moving the radio and a guitar out of reach of the wake from a passing tugboat, Foti looked up to see that Buckley was gone. Despite a determined rescue effort that night, Buckley remained missing, and the search was called off the following day due to heavy rain. One week later his body was spotted by a tourist on a riverboat marina and was brought ashore."
